Flour Clay

4 cups flour
1 1/2 cups salt
2 cups water

Combine the flour and salt. Add water slowly, stopping when the dough is a little dry. Knead 10 minutes. Divide into batches and add food coloring (or leave white and let the kids color the dried objects with markers). Store in airtight containers like margarine tubs.

Bubbles/Super Bubbles

10 parts warm water
1 part Dawn dishwashing liquid
1/4 cup Karo syrup or glycerine

Mix the water and Dawn (adding too much soap will make shorter lived bubbles, and on hot days add a little more water) Karo syrup/glycerine is to make long lasting, beautiful colored bubbles.

Play Dough

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 cup water
1 tablespoon cooking oil
2 teaspoons cream of tartar

Cook over medium heat until dough forms a ball and follows the spoon. Remove to wax paper and divide into 4 sections. Drop food coloring onto each ball. Knead until coloring is worked in thoroughly. Wrap in plastic or put into sealed containers. The cream of tartar will help the dough hold shape please do not omit. Coffee, tea or cocoa will make beautiful browns.

One of my daughters elementry school teachers made this for the students to create maps of different countries. They placed their mountains, land, water, etc. on poster board or a heavy cardboard box side and let it dry. Made for a very impressive project that the kids were proud of and enjoyed making.
